Suit Up

"The idea was to bring together a group of of remarkable people to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could." (Nick Fury)

Since there have been superheroes, nerds like me have wanted to see what would happen if they teamed up. Both the Avengers and the Justice League of America brought this dream to life (only marvel did it in live action).  Several superheroes are always better than just one, but just like in sports it is practically an impulse to compare one team to another.

Each team has its advantages and disadvantages, however the justice league has a few flaws that seem to go unnoticed. The team of heroes come together to deal with a villain to powerful for just one hero. Here is my problem with the Justice League:

They call in the most powerful heroes in the world; Superman has super strength, can fly, and has various other super powers; Green lantern has a power ring that can create anything he imagines; Wonder Woman have super strength and speed and (in newer versions) can fly; and Batman has...um...a utility belt and a cool car. To me, it doesn't seem logical that Batman would be involved. Batman is a great crime fighter, but that's all he should be fighting, the regular criminals. (Not even going to mention Aqua man).

Ignoring its flaws, the Justice League would make an interesting movie, IF IT EVER GOT MADE.
DC comics, as a response shortly after the Avengers movie was released promised a Justice League movie by 2013, and Flash and Wonder Woman movies to follow soon after, not to mention a new Batman after the Dark night franchise.(really more Batman, never seen that one before). It's 2014 now and I'm fairly certain that not one of these movies have been made. Surprise, suprise DC comics fails again.

The Avengers already have a sequel in the works. Featuring new members (new as in, new to the movies, they existed in comics already) Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and the Vision joining the existing team to fight ULTRON. Other upcoming movies which will be discussed in future posts are Ant Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and a Fantastic Four reboot. Because these movies are from Marvel studios we can trust that they WILL BE MADE!
Until then,

Excelsior, Marc out.

Cast of Many. Cast of Few

I asked you who the best superhero was In the Marvel and DC universes respectively. No doubt in the Marvel universe names like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, as well as many others, come to mind. In fact there are so many names that nerds have been arguing about it for as long as there have been comics. On the other hand, asking who the best superhero is in the DC universe is nearly pointless because DC fans will only ever say one of two names (neither of which are Aqua Man).

  Bat Man and Superman.

These two names are the DC fan favourites, there's no argument. I wonder why? Because they are the only heroes worth any of your time. But don't take my word for it, hear it from DC comics itself. Let me explain.

Over the years numerous movies have been made focusing on superheroes, up to 2013 Marvel has made 36 movies, and DC 25 (counting live action movies only, not including documentaries or TV movies). Marvel made more movies and was first to the punch with Captain America in 1944, but that's not what I'm trying to point out. Of the 24 movies DC made 16 to 18(depending on how you score "Supergirl" and "Catwoman") are Bat Man and Superman movies. There's your proof that the company itself doesn't even want to waste it's time and money making a movie for their second rate characters. Instead they would rather retell the same origin stories of the only two characters people will pay to see.

I challenge a DC fan to give me one good reason Wonder Woman, the Flash, Hawk girl or Green Arrow is better than Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Black Widow or Spider Man. You can build a comic franchise on a handful of passable characters, but don't pretend to be up to the quality of a franchise comprised of dozens of great characters.

 Excelsior, Marc out.

Introduction

Hello my nerdy readers.

Because of recent box office successes, Marvel has become a household name. If you don't know what I'm referring to you need to get out of the house more often. With big titles like Iron man, Thor, Captain America and, the ultimate superhero geek movie,The Avengers you can see why Marvel's fan basis continues to grow.  But there are a number of people that continue to hold on to the foolish belief the DC is the best superhero franchise.  This, of course, is not true.

Here is where the DC comics fans have stopped reading, with the exception of the die hard fans that will no doubt be leaving angry comments.

This topic is controversial among super-nerds (see what I did there) and I don't expect DC fans to be convinced from the start, if fact I wouldn't believe it if you did, so I will be sure to point out how Marvel is superior to DC in nearly every way. In addition, I'll be sure to address any and all counter arguments left in the comment section (unless they make absolutely no sense, I.E: you're arguments are like the hulks diapers. Frankly I would have no idea how to respond to that).  That said, I hope you enjoy the following internet bashing.

I would also like to point out that I will be focusing, for the most part, on film. While I do intend to include elements from the comics, my views are based on the knowledge that "none-obsessive" fans would understand. Now, prepare for eight weeks of superhero nerdy ness.

A thought for readers pertaining to my next post: who are the best DC heroes? The best Marvel?  How many movies do they have?

Excelsior, Marc out.

P.S. For future posts I promise to figure out how to put pictures on this stupid thing.
